Hey there, sea lovers! It’s Shelly 🐢🛳️ and I love sea day dinners. One of the biggest questions about cruise food is simple: what’s included, and what costs extra? Here’s how cruise specialty dining cost works, so you can plan your meals and your budget.
What food is included on a cruise?
On most cruise lines, the main dining room and the buffet are included in your fare. Many ships also have smaller casual spots, like pizza, grill or deli counters, that often stay open when the main dining room and buffet are closed. They’re satisfying and can save you from paying for specialty dining when you just want a quick bite.
What is a specialty restaurant cover charge?
Specialty restaurants, like steakhouses and sushi spots, usually cost extra. Many charge a cover charge, which is a flat fee per person to eat there, on top of your fare. Others price each dish separately. Check how your ship charges before you book.
Check menus in the cruise line’s app
Most cruise line apps let you look at menus before you sail. That way you know which restaurants are worth it for you, and you can book reservations early, before popular times fill up.
Is a cruise dining package worth it?
If you’re a foodie planning several special dinners or lunches, a dining package can cost less than paying for each meal one by one. Add up how many specialty meals you’ll actually eat, then compare.
Cruise suite perks that include dining
Some suites, upgraded room packages and higher fares bundle perks like specialty dining. If your cabin already includes it, you may not need a separate package, so compare before you buy both.
Cruise spa vs specialty dining
Shows onboard are free, so your splurge usually comes down to a specialty dinner or the spa. Tough decision! Spoil yourself with whatever you choose.
